Celtic Wedding Rings - Can They Be Re-Sized?

Ring re-sizing is a job best performed by trained professionals. The complexities of cutting and soldering precious metals require a careful hand and a certain level of experience and expertise - however, it is certainly possible to re-size a Celtic wedding ring.

There are many reasons why people seek out the re-sizing of a treasured Celtic ring. It may be an heirloom item which is being passed down from generation to generation. Or, someone may wish to change the size to reflect weight loss or gain. Whatever the reason is, there are certain rules that must be followed to ensure the best possible result.

A professional jeweler will be your best starting point for ring size changes. They will be able to put their years of experience to work for you. Their technicians have a lot of skill with regard to performing the technical tasks of cutting and soldering.

For a smaller ring, a chunk of the band will be removed.

Then, the metal will be heated and the ring will be closed through soldering. For a larger size, the band will require the addition of a piece of stock metal that matches the ring. The ring will be carefully cut, and then stretched to the desired size. Then, the piece of stock will be heated and incorporated as seamlessly as possible in to the band itself.

Certain types of Celtic rings do not lend themselves to re-sizing. For example, some designs features careful engraving all along the band, which cannot survive the soldering process. Also, some rings may feature jewel inlays, such as diamonds, that make re-sizing impractical. In most cases, a new ring in the proper size will need to be ordered instead, and it can take weeks to finish the transaction and receive the ring you want.

If you do opt for re-sizing, it's better to go straight to someone who really understands what they are doing, and has the qualifications to take care of the job without affecting the beauty of your Celtic wedding ring.

Celtic wedding rings have some unique features, which make them well worth the expense of re-sizing. They often offer a glimpse into the cultural past of the Celtic people.

For example, a wealth of ancient symbols are found in the delicate engravings and embossings found on Celtic wedding rings. Trinity Knots, whose three-pointed design illustrates the sanctity of The Holy Trinity (The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit), are common design features in today's Celtic wedding jewelry.

Other popular symbols with long histories in Celtic art and history are spirals, which symbolize life force, and Celtic knot work (or interlace), with its hypnotic, never-ending lines.

More modern symbols are uniquely Irish, such as the Claddagh symbols of crowned heart and tiny hands. People of Celtic ancestry often use Claddagh rings as wedding rings, and they are traditional tokens of affection with enduring, romantic appeal. Today's ladies' Claddagh wedding rings often feature a solitaire, heart-shaped diamond.

The symbols of Celtic culture combine with authentic, handcrafted quality. They are so well-made, that re-sizing should be a simple matter (when in the hands of a trusted technician).
